Phenotype: The dominant mutation Stumpy causes a short tail phenotype in heterozygous drakes (St/st).
Heterozygotes for Stumpy (St/st) have 13 to 15 caudal vertebrae, with short tails that curl ventrally and lack the terminal club and flare.
Homozygotes (St/St) are inviable; when two St/st drakes are bred, one-quarter of the progeny die prior to hatching, producing a 2:1 ratio of Stumpy to wild type.
