Bioinformatics Resources

DracoBase was built using information from publicly available resources. These are briefly described below.

Ensembl. Ensembl is a source for genomic sequences and annotation for a large number of organisms. Where possible, drake gene sequences are from Anolis carolinensis. You can view the transcript model for Tyr at Ensembl; links in the left column direct you to the cDNA sequence and protein sequence.

Mouse Genome Informatics. MGI is a source of functional annotation of genes (please see the GO Browser), mouse phenotypes, sequences and more. All of the BLAST searches against mouse displayed in DracoBase were run using MouseBLAST, with BLASTP as the search tool, protein sequences as the query, and Uniprot Mouse as the database. Please see the Gene Detail page for Tyr. There is also a Glossary and some online books.

Uniprot. Uniprot is the source for concise descriptions of the molecular function of a gene product, including connections to human disease. Please see the Uniprot summary for human Tyr.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man. OMIM is the source for information on human diseases and disease genes. Please see the OMIM entry on Oculocutaneous Albinism, Type IB.

ExPASy. ExPASy is a source for a number of online bioinformatics tools. I have used the translation tool extensively in building DracoBase.
